When oldery like people tell stories (usually boring, irrelevant ones), they have an obsession with letting you know what day of the week this insipid tale occurred on.
It makes no difference on the outcome- B.O.R.I.N.G., and a considerable amount of time is spent trying to work out the day.
This fascinates me to no end and I have started peppering all my conversations with:
“Was it a Wednesday or a Thursday?”
